DAC Kowloon RFC Appoints Lewis Wilson as New Club Coaching Officer

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

DAC Kowloon RFC are excited to announce the appointment of Lewis Wilson as our new Club Coaching Officer and Men’s Premiership Head Coach. Lewis is a young, dynamic coach with an impressive playing background. At only 26 years old, he has already achieved international honours as a rugby player for England age groups and has played professionally for teams such as Yorkshire Carnegie and Rotherham Titans.

As well as his impressive playing background, Lewis has developed a considerable amount of coaching knowledge and skills, having most recently worked as a Rugby Development Officer, Lead Forward and Defence Coach at Pocklington Rugby Club and as Forwards Coach, Mixed Ability Coach, and All-Inclusive Coach at York RI Rugby Club.

Lewis also has valuable knowledge of the rugby scene in Hong Kong, having previously played for HKU Sandy Bay RFC and worked as their Community Coach in 2021, before moving back to the UK. Lewis's familiarity with the rugby scene in Hong Kong will undoubtedly serve him well as he takes on this new role. His knowledge of the league and the players involved will be instrumental in helping the club to achieve its goals on the field.

"I am very familiar with the rugby scene in Hong Kong, having previously played for Sandy Bay," said Lewis. "I am looking forward to using my knowledge and experience to help Kowloon succeed in the league and to help our players reach their full potential."

As Club Coaching Officer, Lewis will oversee coaching within the club to enhance alignment and high performance for all teams. He will also provide tactical and technical support services to identified players. The club is thrilled to have Lewis on board and believes that his expertise will be invaluable in helping the club achieve its goals.

"I am absolutely delighted to be joining Kowloon as Club Coaching Officer and Men’s Premiership Head Coach. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a new challenge and share my knowledge and experience of the game with a new group of players," said Lewis.

Lewis's appointment has been met with enthusiasm from players and staff at DAC Kowloon RFC. The Chairman of the club, Dean McLachlan, said, "We are excited to have Lewis join the club as Club Coaching Officer. He is a young coach who is energetic and eager to get his coaching career at this level underway. He brings plenty of playing and coaching experience from abroad and has a good understanding of the local competition, having played here previously.” “With an experienced backs coach, Ed Styles, providing continuity for the squads and support for Lewis, we are looking forward to a great season and welcome him back to Hong Kong," Dean added.

Moreover, Dean remarked that “The CCO program is designed for young, aspiring coaches like Lewis and has served our club and Hong Kong rugby well over the years. There are numerous examples of young, quality coaches benefiting our players and teams while honing their craft here in Hong Kong before moving on to roles within the Hong Kong China Rugby representative program or overseas.”

With the Men’s Premiership season about to kick off in October, Lewis's primary focus will be on getting the team ready for the upcoming 2023/24 Nan Fung Group | SEWIT Premiership season. The club is confident that Lewis's hunger and expertise will lead them to success on the field.

"I am committed to helping the club achieve all of its goals," said Lewis. "I can't wait to get started and work with the players and staff at Kowloon RFC."

We wish Lewis the very best of luck in his new role with the club.
